Tennis Canada releases lineup for first-round Davis Cup qualifier against Hungary

MONTREAL – Denis Shapovalov headlines the five-man roster for Canada’s first-round Davis Cup qualifier against Hungary next month.

The 25-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., is ranked 58th in the ATP Tour rankings.

Tennis Canada says the lineup also includes Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau of Laval, Que., Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ont., and Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, B.C.

The winner of the Feb. 1-2 tie will advance to the second round of qualifiers in September.

Third-ranked Canada won the Davis Cup in 2022 but has lost in the quarterfinals the last two years.

Hungary, ranked No. 22, qualified for the first-round tie by defeating Egypt in World Group 1 play.
